The page is copied, not re-rendered
The first page object is copied into a new one-page document, so its text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp at any zoom, and embedded images keep their original resolution. Nothing is rasterised into a flat picture, which is the usual failure mode of print-to-PDF approaches to the same task.
Size and what is left behind
A one-page extract is not always one page's worth of bytes. Fonts and images shared across the document may be embedded in full, so a large source can yield a larger output than expected. Form fields, annotations, and signatures attached to the original may not carry over, and an encrypted PDF cannot be opened without its password.
